Website localization course

How to learn about website localisation

The summer is over and it’s time to get back to work. I hope you’ve rested up and recharged your batteries to face new challenges, grasp wonderful opportunities and prepare for more achievements. If you’re among those who come back to work with tons of energy and thirst for knowledge, especially in the area of localisation, you might be interested in the introductory course on website localisation. This is what I’ve been working on for the whole summer. The course is now ready and available via Alexandria Library, so take a look at it, if you feel like starting a new adventure with website localisation.

What’s in it for me?

If you’re a translator and want to know more about localisation, this course will help you understand the ins and outs of website localisation. In 42 lectures I’ll take you on a journey through the website localisation process, cultural adaptation, digital genres, localisation of graphics and localisation testing. You’ll also learn about technology and tools needed to translate and localise websites. This won’t be limited to CAT tools only, as the course explains also the basics of HTML, XML and XLIFF, which are all very important in the website localisation process. Finally, you’ll find out how to work with direct customers on a website localisation project, what tools, process and skills you’ll need to work independently or to build your own team. You’ll also get some tips on professional development in the field of localisation. And if this still isn’t enough, you can also complete an optional final assignment that will prepare you for the real-life localisation projects carried out for direct customers.

How to start?

As this is a self-paced course, you can start any time and complete the course at your own pace. The estimated study time is about 4 hours and you can come back to the videos whenever you want. Of course, in case of questions I’m always there to help and explain any doubts to make your journey smoother and easier.

Update from April 2020:

The course has been moved and is now available on my website here.
